An initiative by the municipality of Nicosia that aims to bring the arts to people’s doorsteps by hosting a series of cultural events at various neighborhood squares around the city. A video featuring an interview with Nicosia’s Mayor Ms Eleni Mavrou.
‘Summer Nights’ includes theater and dance performances as well as music performances that range from ethnic groups from other countries to concerts by traditional and contemporary local musicians. The events are free and open to the public. As Ms Mavrou points out, one of the main reasons for the success of this initiative is that “one does not need to dress up or to pay for an expensive ticket in order to enjoy a part of our culture. This main characteristic of these events has brought out many people.”
