KiprosTV is a video based website with original content that aims to support the arts and culture of Cyprus.
Its videos showcase local artists, musicians, theater groups and other individuals or groups that are involved with the arts. In addition it aims to raise awareness for the voluntary and community work provided by charities and non-profit organizations that are active in the community as well as related subjects such as multiculturalism, media literacy, etc.
As Michalis Kalopedis, founder of KiprosTV notes “through the use of video and online technologies, KiprosTV aims to document, showcase and support such efforts in our local community, as well as to make them known on an international level.” KiprosTV does not charge a fee to the artists and organizations for the video production services and for being included on its website. We have recognized a social problem (lack of coverage, promotion for the Arts, social discussion, etc) and we use entrepreneurial principles to create social change.
Director’s Approach
The videos produced by KiprosTV follow a documentary style approach. They are short in length and have a modern approach in their production and editing styles. They are not ‘promotional’ videos and touch upon larger issues. As a collective they create in a way an online discussion about what is going on at the moment in Cyprus both in terms of the art scene and for other subjects. Through the various interviews we also hear different opinion for what can be done in order to make things better.
A platform for other artists
KiprosTV is also a platform for the artists of Cyprus to showcase their audiovisual work such as experimental video art projects, short films and animation videos. Such videos are usually only seen in film festivals and the opportunity to showcase this type of content on KiprosTV helps artists to reach out to a greater audience and raise awareness for their work.
